Facial Fat Grafting in Los Angeles can make you look younger
Why get fat put into your face, while everyone is trying to get rid of their fat? There are two reasons people get fat grafting to their face. First, facial aging causes loss of facial volume which results in hollowness of the face and an aging look. Second, weight loss would also results in loss of facial volume which make a person look older. That is why many women in Los Angeles are opting for facial fat grafting as a way of replenishing the lost facial volume and to make themselves look young.
While fat grafting to the face is a relatively minor procedure, it is associated with major facial swelling. Women who plan to have facial fat grafting must know and accept that their face would be swollen for 1-2 months after surgery, and that during this time they might still have some bruising in some areas.
Dr. Younai who is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon has been performing body contouring and facial fat grafting for many years. Attached is a facial fat grafting before and after picture of a patient of Dr. Younai. To learn more about this procedure you can visit Dr. Sean Younai's web site at http://www.Beautifulself.com
There are many things to consider when contemplating having facial plastic surgery. While some women would only need facial fat grafting, other might benefit from a facelift.

Latest Plastic Surgery Trends in Los Angeles for Women
Plastic Surgery is part of life in Los Angeles! Obviously its not for everyone, but plastic surgery is an important reality for many Los Angeles women who want to look and feel their best. According to the 2012 issue of
the Los Angeles Magazine trends in plastic surgery procedures have evolved over
the recent years in Southern California. While breast augmentation has remained
very popular among young and middle age women, Brazilian Butt Lift has
definitely become hot. Women want to have the perfect body, and that means
perfect curves, literally from the top to the bottom. This means more luscious
lips, fuller and perkier breasts, narrow waist, and curvaceous hips with full
buttocks. Every woman in Los Angeles is striving for the perfect body; and if
they cannot attain it with diet and exercise, they just buy it in a plastic
surgeon’s office just around the corner! However, plastic surgery is not a item
that you can just buy, just like you buy jeans. Contrary to some peoples
believe plastic surgery is a complex surgical procedure that carries risks and
involves a recovery period. That is why when looking for the perfect body in
Los Angeles you should look carefully and cautiously.
Dr. Sean Younai who is an
experienced Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon, says that you should not only ask for
a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, but one that also has had experience in the
field of your interest, such as liposuction, breast augmentation, tummy tuck,
or even Brazilian Butt Augmentation.

Best Plastic Surgeon in Beverly Hills
How do you find the best plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles? Some people look at the media and reviews as a source of information, others search the internet for information about Plastic Surgeons in Los Angeles.
In my opinion, the most important things that you should look for in a plastic surgeon are:
1.Plastic Surgeon should be Board Certified from the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
2. Evaluate before and after plastic surgery pictures to see if the plastic surgeon in your area has much experience in the area of your interest. For example if you want to have a tummy tuck and you are a plus size woman, it would be good to find a doctor that has many before and after pictures of plus size women, especially tummy tuck pictures.
3. Getting a real feel for the doctor when you meet them in person is much more important that what you read about them online. A plastic surgeon that seems personable and nice to you might not look the same to another person.
4. Finally, you can ask to speak to other patients who have had the same procedure in order to ask about their experience.

Dr. Sean Younai Reviews on Google Places & Yelp
Have you read Dr. Sean Younai reviews on popular local search review
sites such as Google Places and Yelp?
Google Places offer great local search reviews of all business including that of Dr. Sean Younai in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Encino, and Bakersfield. Google+ plastic surgery reviews of Dr. Younai has generally been
very positive and encouraging.
Yelp.com, has become a household name for local search reviews of restaurants,
business, and even plastic surgeons. Sadly, there are a tremendous
number of business owners who believe that Yelp is removing their good reviews
and mostly showing their bad reviews because they refuse to advertise with yelp
and pay them money! I am one of those business owners who were approached by
Yelp sale people to advertise with them after Yelp filter buried many of my
actual patient’s good reviews, and instead, placed suspicious bad reviews on my
first page. How do we know this? When we approached some of these people to
inquire about their complaints, they asked for money in return for removing their
bad reviews. This is sad and unjust!
There are over 5000 before and after plastic surgery pictures of Dr. Younai’s patients on his web site. These
results are testimony to Dr. Younai’s level of skill and patient care as a
Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. This is why patients routinely come from not
only Southern California, but from the entire United States, as well as abroad
to get plastic surgery by Dr. Younai. This success can only be built by
delivering patients quality results and service. To give Dr. Younai’s patients
an opportunity to share their plastic surgery experience and to voice their opinions
we offer a Patient Forum where they post their comments, before and after pictures,
and tips. We hope that it would give new
patients a way of educating themselves about their plastic surgery endeavor. Sunday, July 29, 2012
Tummy Tuck for Men in Los Angeles- Male Abdominoplasty
Have you ever heard of a man getting a tummy tuck! Isn’t a tummy tuck just for women who have had multiple pregnancies? Then, why would a man get a tummy tuck in Los Angeles?
Male tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is not such an uncommon plastic surgery procedure in Beverly Hills as you might think! Los Angeles men who have lost massive weight either by dieting or with Bariatric Surgery are often left with unsightly hanging abdominal flab. These Southern California men who seek an abdominoplasty don’t get a tummy tuck because of vanity, but in order to look normal, wear cloths comfortably, and in order to be able to live active lives.
After Gastric bypass or lap band surgery, men who have lost more than 60 lbs of weight are often left with a hanging pannus. Besides being unattractive it poses a hindrance to exercise, as well as a man’s ability to wear normal cloths.
There are several body contouring procedures who help men regain their normal physic after massive weight loss. High Tension Tummy tuck or abdominoplasty for men not only removes excess abdominal skin, but also tightens the abdominal muscles. For men who also have sagging of the thighs or buttocks a body lift surgery is more appropriate. In Los Angeles, a body lift which is also called a lower body lift is a combination of a tummy tuck and a buttock lift or lower body lift. While the tummy tuck portion of the body lift, removes the excess skin of the abdomen and tightens its muscles, the buttock lift portion, lifts the buttocks and removes the excess skin of the lower back and flanks. Liposuction of the flanks or “love handles” can also be incorporated in order to enhance the overall results of the tummy tuck.
A tummy tuck for men varies from that for women, in that the emphasis is not to make the body look curvy and feminine. The scars are also placed very low so that they don’t show in a bathing suit.
Dr. Sean Younai is a board certified plastic surgeon who is very experienced in all aspects of post-bariatric or massive weight loss plastic surgery. He not only performs High Tension Abdominoplasty and body lift, but also High-Volume Liposuction, brachioplasty or arm tuck, thigh lift or thigh reduction, upper body lift, breast lift or mastopexy, as well as face and neck lifts. These complex cosmetic and restorative surgeries can only be performed at a surgical facility which is fully accredidated and equipped. Dr. Younai utilizes Regency Surgery Center which is an AAACH accredidated, and Medicare Certified freestanding Outpatient Surgery Center. Here, patients are cared for by an experienced group of Board Certified Anesthesiologists and critical care nurses who work meticulously not only to ensure patient’s safety but also their comfort.
At the California Center for Plastic Surgery Dr. Sean Younai receives patients from the Northern as well as the Southern California region, including cities such as Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Hollywood, Burbank, Pasadena, Glendale, Valencia, Palmdale, Fresno, Bakersfield, Oxnard, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, East Bay, San Jose, and Stockton.

Tummy Tuck for African-American women- What African American Women look for abdominoplasty in Los Angeles
The ideal for a beautiful figure
differs much between African-American women and Caucasians; not only in Los
Angeles or Southern California, but through-out the United States of America.
While most Caucasian women seek cosmetic plastic surgery in order to
obtain a smaller and more petite figure, most African-American women don’t mind
being full bodied. Instead, they rather have a curvaceous figure with a full
buttock.
The failure to note this difference
in expectations among different ethnicities can often lead to the disappointment
of African-American women who have gone through plastic surgery, only to find
themselves with a less attractive “stick-figure” body.
The second photo is that of the
same woman after a revision abdominoplasty and liposuction by me. Note the
difference in shape, curves, and figure. This is what most African American
women say they want. Black women don’t necessarily want to get thinner, but
more curvaceous.
As the ethnic diversity changes in
the United States plastic surgeons should pay closer attention to the notion of
beauty among different ethnicities.

Facial Cosmetic Surgery Procedures in Los Angeles- Keep looking young in your 40’s!

Aging is inevitable but looking good is a choice! Most Los
Angeles women notice the first signs of facial aging in their late 30’s or
early 40’s. As a Plastic Surgeon in Beverly Hills, I often hear from women that they suddenly noticed their face aging when they reached a certain age. Facial aging can be slow or rather
sudden and dramatic. For some women this is hastened by a stressful life event,
by weight loss, or by changes in body hormones caused by pre-menopause or even
hysterectomy. Seeing your face age in front of a mirror in a matter of a few months is scary and
depressing. Beverly Hills Facial Plastic Surgeons have developed new cosmetic surgery techniques for women in their 40s. The new paradigm in facial esthetic surgery is to keep women looking young via small and easy procedures during their 40s rather than putting them through drastic plastic surgery procedures in you 50s.
The most common non-invasive plastic surgery procedure utilized by middle age women is the injection of Botox and dermal fillers. Botox is a muscle toxin than relaxes cramped facial muscles, thus softening the appearance of frowns and the wrinkles around the eyes. Dermal
fillers accomplish this by filling the depth of these wrinkles.
Micro-facial fat grafting is a relatively new and revolutionary technique for facial
rejuvenation. It returns facial fullness to the areas that lose their volume
with aging. On such area is around the lower eyelids were the eyes become
hollow. Other areas are the cheeks and the
lips that lose their volume with aging. Facial fat grafting can give a middle
age women a refreshed look without having to expose them to major surgery.
Of all the areas of the face, the first to show signs of aging are the eyes. Drooping upper eyelids and baggy lower eyelids can be smoothened by an eyelid tuck or Blepharoplasty. This
is a minor cosmetic surgery procedure with a simple and fast recovery course.
Sagging brows produce frowns and forehead wrinkles. Endoscopic forehead lift or brow lift
raises the eyebrows and smoothens the forehead.
These were some of the facial plastic surgery procedures that keep
women looking young during their 40s. Dr. Younai is a Board Certified Plastic
& Reconstructive Surgeon with experience in all aspects of Facial Cosmetic Surgery including facial fat grafting, Facelift or Rhytidectomy, eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty, neck
lift, forehead or brow lift, rhinoplasty, etc. He is skilled and experienced in
all techniques of facial rejuvenation surgery and strives to create a face that is natural and normal looking. During your consultation he will discuss all
details including: if you are a good candidate, surgical options and
techniques, potential risks and complications of surgery, pre- and
post-operative instructions, recovery course, as well as what to expect after
surgery. At that time Dr. Younai will also show you before-and-after
pictures of other patients with facelifts, who might be similar to
you.

Asian Eyelid Surgery in Beverly Hills

Asian Eyelid Plastic Surgery, also known as “Double Eyelid Surgery,” is the most requested cosmetic surgery in the Asian population, both in Asia and the United States. However, the average age of those who undergo this surgery is generally younger than for eyelid surgery that is performed on “Occidental” patients.
Many Asians go to impressive lengths to create a crease without surgery. For example, some women sweep glue above their eyes, use a mini-fork to hike up their eyelids, and then press it into place. The goal is to create a larger, more attractive eye. Rather than endure this routine on a daily basis, many patients opt for cosmetic surgery that creates a permanent crease.
While many regard this plastic surgery as an attempt to appear more “Western,” possibly a better definition of the goal is to have a more defined contouring of the skin above the lashes that is harmonious with other facial features. Often criticized as a rejection of cultural “norms,” this surgery is in fact sought for the same reasons as are other procedures – to increase the patient’s self confidence. It is not sought to look more Occidental. Rather, patients seek to conform to what is more widely regarded as aesthetically pleasing, whatever the culture. In other words, patients do not seek a more Western eye, but simply a prettier Asian one.
About half of all Asian patients have an upper eyelid with a low but defined eyelid crease. The other 50 percent of patients show little or no sign of a crease, i.e. a “single eyelid.”

About half of all Asian patients have an upper eyelid with a low but defined eyelid crease. The other 50 percent of patients show little or no sign of a crease, i.e. a “single eyelid.”
When present, the Asian crease differs from the typical Occidental crease in a number of ways. These include formation that is closer to the eyelashes, a different shape – with sometimes incomplete or multiple folds. The Asian upper eyelid appears fuller or “puffier” than the Occidental eyelid for many reasons, including a thicker eyebrow fat pad that projects lower into the eyelid, and a much thicker subcutaneous layer of fat that adds padding over the entire eyelid. This interferes with crease formation.
Also, because Asian eyelashes tend to bend downward, the area between the upper and lower eyelids appears more closed.

Thigh Lift in Beverly Hills & Los Angeles

What is a Thigh Lift?
After weight loss, men and women can get sagging and rippling of their thighs that can extend from the upper thighs to the knees. Often, women complain that they are unable to wear swimsuits and that the loose skin rubs together between their thighs. Also the wrinkled loose skin around the knees keeps many women from being able to wear skirts.
While the sagging of the outer thighs and the buttocks can usually be addressed with a Body Lift procedure that of the inner thighs cannot. A Thigh Lift is a procedure which lifts and tightens the loose skin of thighs -- mostly that of the inner thighs.
What is a Traditional Thigh Lift?
Two different types of thigh lifts can be performed depending on the extent of skin laxity. If the skin laxity and rippling is mostly limited to the upper inner thighs, and skin excess does not extend to the entire circumference of the thigh, a Traditional Thigh Lift can be performed. In this procedure the surgical scar is located in the groin crease extending to the buttock crease. This scar is very well hidden.
What is an Extended Thigh Lift?
Often, people who were once extremely obese are now left with extensive laxity of the entire thigh all the way to the knees. In these cases, an Extended Thigh Lift is performed. In addition to the scar of the groin crease, there is also a long vertical scar that extends along the inner thigh height. This vertical scar enables the surgeon to remove the lax excessive skin of the entire thigh.

Yes. Both Traditional Thigh Lift and Extended Thigh Lift can often be combined with limited Liposuction in order to better contour the legs and to reduce the size of the “saddle bags”.

Liposuction in Beverly Hills & Los Angeles

Three groups of men and women in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills pursue Liposuction for body contouring, in order to achieve their ideal body. Unlike diet and exercise liposuction can spot reduce areas of unwanted fat deposit. This makes Beverly Hills liposuction a more fitting choice than Bariatric Surgery or Gastric Bypass among those who don’t want fat reduction from their entire body.
The first category of liposuction candidates in Los Angeles includes those who wish to reduce their size, such as women who have gained weight due to pregnancy, hormonal fluctuations or medications. This category also includes men and women who undergo Large Volume Liposuction. Contrary to standard Liposuction which only removes about two liters of fat; Large Volume Liposuction, removes more than 5 liters of fat – resulting in a dramatic reduction in size.
The second group of candidates includes those who have disproportionately gained fat in areas such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, knees, buttocks, cheeks and neck. These problem areas are commonly known as "saddlebags," "thunder thighs," "love handles" and "double chins." Often, these stubborn areas of fat have genetic origins, and cannot be reduced by diet and exercise. These groups of patient use liposuction for its sculpturing benefits, in order to form their body into an ideal shape.
The third group is limited to men who suffer from Gynecomastia, excessive breast growth due to the enlargement of breast glands, and excess fatty growth in the chest and breasts.
In all cases, men and women who undergo Liposculpture in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles should have had a stabilized weight for at least six months. Liposuction does not remove stretch marks or cellulite.

Brazilian Butt Lift in Beverly Hills & Los Angeles

The size and fullness of the buttocks can be enlarged with either natural fat injection /grafting/ transfer or with Buttock Implants. The combined technique of fat transfer and body contouring through liposculpture is otherwise known as the “Brazilian Butt Lift” in Beverly Hills or Los Angeles.
Beverly Hills Brazilian Butt Lift or Buttock Augmentation with fat grafting or injection involves harvesting your own body fat via liposuction from other areas of excess and transferring it into the buttock tissue. For example excess fat in the flanks, hips, lower back, thighs, or abdomen is liposuctioned, processed and then injected into the muscle and soft tissue of your buttocks.

During this fat grafting process the buttocks can be contoured to the desired shape and size. The fullness and projection of the buttocks can be greatly increased by laying many fine layers of micro-fat grafts throughout the thickness of the Gluteal muscle and the subcutaneous tissue. Because some of this fat does reabsorb, fat injection might need to be repeated by your Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon.

Nutritional Herbal Supplements for Plastic surgery in Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeons have always been drawn to the cutting edge technology in order to give their patients the very best. The latest Plastic Surgery advent in Beverly Hills has not been a high tech laser. But rather, just the opposite, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeons are turning low tech! They are embracing Holistic Medicine- the natural herbs and vitamin supplements that potentially help cosmetic surgery patients heal and recover the fastest. Even the American Society of Plastic Surgery is now educating the public about nutritional supplements that reduce bruising and facilitate healing.
The following are examples of some of the most commonly used nutritional herbal supplements and vitamins that are now commonly being used by plastic and cosmetic surgeons in Beverly Hills.
Arnica Montana
Arnica Montana is a natural herb that minimizes surgical bleeding, bruising, inflammation, muscle pain, and promotes healing. It works well both in an oral form and as a cream, but avoid putting the cream near open wounds and fresh incisions. Taken before plastic surgery, there is less bleeding and swelling afterwards, and taken after cosmetic surgery, pain and bruising are minimized. Because of this property Arnica Montana is used prior to liposuction, tummy tuck, or facial plastic surgery.

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)
Vitamin C is an antioxidant which helps your natural defenses against free radicals, which are unstable molecules that age the skin, resulting from environmental pollutants, smoking, or excess sun exposure. Vitamin C neutralizes volatile reactions caused by free radicals that damage skin. Preliminary studies suggest vitamin C supplements in non-deficient people can speed healing of various types of wounds and trauma, including surgery, minor injuries, herniated intervertebral disks and skin ulcers.
Vitamin C is also essential for your body’s production of collagen which is used in the building of your skin, bones, teeth, and every organ of your body.
Vitamin C can be found in citrus fruits and juices, cantaloupe, strawberries, kiwi, cabbage, spinach, broccoli, and green peppers.
There are many forms and doses of Vitamin C available in Health Food Stores. Taking any more than about 200 milligrams per day is likely a waste of money anyway, according to a landmark study by Mark Levine of the NIH. Levine's group found that the body's cells can't absorb more than about 100 milligrams per day, and the concentration of vitamin C in the blood begins to level off at a dose of 200 milligrams per day. The study appeared in the April 1996 issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Usage: Start 3 days before plastic surgery. Four pills, 3 times a day, under the tongue. Let pills dissolve. Continue for two weeks after Plastic Surgery.

Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery

In today’s society, as people live longer and healthier lives, an increasing emphasis is being placed on preserving ones youthful appearance. In Beverly Hills Cosmetic surgery enables men and women to look as young, healthy, and energetic as they feel! With Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills men and women try to live their lives to its fullest and to look as healthy as they feel. People want their looks to reflect their good health and stamina. Just glance at any magazine such as Allure, Cosmopolitan, or Self; and there is often an article related to the topic of cosmetic surgery in Beverly Hills or Los Angeles.
As a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, doctor Sean Younai come across many men and women of all ages, social, and ethnic backgrounds who seek cosmetic plastic surgery for personal as well as and professional reasons. Contrary the popular perception that people seek cosmetic enhancements to please their spouses or friends, we find that most just want to feel better about themselves, and for themselves. For instance, many women in Beverly Hills tell me that from an early age they wanted to have fuller breasts in order to look more proportional in cloths! While others who were born with congenital deformities seek plastic surgery just to look normal. Or have you ever heard of a friend saying that he/she hates having pictures taken because they hate their nose.
While many seek cosmetic plastic surgery because of self-fulfillment, a growing number of others resort to plastic surgery in Beverly Hills for their profession. There is a growing pressure in the workforce not to look too old and rusty. Some fear being pushed out of their jobs, only to be replaced by younger workers. They wish to take steps to correct some of the physical signs of aging in order to remain competitive. This does not only pertain to the entertainment industry but to all professions.
The most popular plastic surgery procedures in Beverly Hills are- Breast Augmentation, Liposuction, Tummy Tuck, Rhinoplasty, and Eyelid Surgery.
While most Beverly Hills women seek breast augmentation with saline or silicone implants in order to increase their bust size, there are many others who seek to correct their breast asymmetry, tubular breast deformity, or to revise their previous breast enlargement surgery with implant exchange or capsulectomy. Also, there are women who undergo a breast lift or mastopexy along with breast augmentation in order to lift their sagging breasts which developed as a result of pregnancy, aging, or weight loss.
To achieve a more proportional figure or to restore their bodies shape men and women of Beverly Hills and Los Angeles undergo body contouring procedures such as- liposuction, liposculpture, tummy tuck or abdominoplasty, body lift, brachioplasty or arm tuck, buttock augmentation, and thigh lift. Body contouring procedures such as these have become almost a necessity, especially for those who have lost massive weight after undergoing Bariatric surgery or Gastric Bypass surgery.
Finally, a variety of surgical and non-surgical facial cosmetic surgery procedures which combat facial aging have become accepted in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles. While the clock doesn’t ever stop ticking, youthful appearance can be preserved by the latest cosmetic facial surgeries such as eyelid surgery or blephaorplasty, facelift, neck lift, forehead lift, and rhinoplasty.
During your consultation with the Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon, Doctor Sean Younai will review your treatment options, including pros and cons, potential risks and complications, recovery course, pre and post operative instructions, and esthetic outcomes. There are also many before-and-after pictures, high resolution images of all plastic surgery procedures available in our photo gallery.
Dr. Younai is a Board Certified plastic surgeon who receives patients at the California Center for Plastic Surgery from the Northern as well as the Southern California region. Some of these cities are Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Hollywood, Burbank, Sherman Oaks, Encino, Calabasas, Woodland Hills, Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Pasadena, Glendale, Valencia, Palmdale, Fresno, Bakersfield, and Oxnard.

Who is the most qualified Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon for Performing your Tummy Tuck?

You would not select a dentist to perform Liposuction. Similarly, you should not jeopardize the outcome of your Tummy Tuck procedure, or your well being, by choosing anyone less than the most qualified plastic surgeon.
While many states allow any licensed physician such as a gynecologist, general surgeon, or otolaryngologist to perform cosmetic surgery, that does not mean all these physicians have had the extensive formal training in cosmetic surgery that is taught to a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. In some states, even dentists are lobbying to perform cosmetic procedures.
Because a Tummy Tuck is major surgery, you should place your life in the hands of the most qualified and skilled plastic surgeon. You should also choose a surgeon who will show you solid "Before and After" examples of his or her work, and whose artistic sense is in sync with the results that you are seeking.
In choosing a surgeon to perform Abdominoplasty, you should first choose one who has been certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS): http://www.abplsurg.org/).
This assures that surgeon has endured the most rigorous training possible, including three to five years of training in general surgery and two years of training in plastic surgery. Beware of those physicians who claim to be "board certified" cosmetic surgeons. This may mean that they have taken a brief weekend course in a procedure, but does not guarantee the competence that the American Board of Plastic Surgery ensures. Ideally, you will choose a surgeon who has extensive Abdominoplasty surgery experience, not only experience in plastic surgery in general. Abdominoplasty, like sculpturing, is an art that is learned through experience, but can only be perfected by the plastic surgeon that has an eye and feel for body proportions and contour. This ultimate expert should be an artist as well as a skilled surgeon.

How to Choose the Best Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon !

Throughout Southern California, and especially in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, people are inundated with advertisements about plastic surgery. Some ads depict a plastic surgeon as the "Top" or "Best Beverly Hills plastic surgeon". Others promote "safe Liposuction" or the newest laser that can give you phenomenal esthetic results during your lunch hour with just a few zaps!
With all of this information, how should a man or a woman go about finding the right plastic surgeon? In pursuit of the best plastic surgeon, should he or she travel to Beverly Hills or simply search the Internet for one? Should the prospective patient choose a plastic surgeon based on his or her credentials and degrees? After all, what do these degrees and credentials really mean?
Being a plastic surgeon who has practiced for many years as a Southern California plastic surgery professional, and knowing many other plastic surgeons in the Los Angeles area, I was frustrated when I tried to find the right plastic surgeon for myself!
This is How I Searched for the Best Plastic Surgeon:
First, I visited the Web site for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), which only lists Board Certified Plastic Surgeons. (The other option was to contact the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). This Board is the ONLY recognized board for training and certifying Plastic surgeons for cosmetic surgery of ALL body parts. The Board of Cosmetic surgery is not recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). Its members can purchase a certificate just after attending a few classes without having broad surgical training in plastic surgery. The Board of Facial Plastic Surgery offers a certificate to ENT or Otolaryngologists, whose training is limited to only that of the head and neck.)
Once I found the list of all Board Certified plastic surgeons throughout Southern California, including Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, I researched them via the California Medical Board to find out if they have had complaints or malpractices. Has their medical license ever been restricted or held? Have their privileges to perform surgery at any hospital ever been taken away? If a large group of doctors at a prominent hospital no longer allow a certain doctor to practice there, do you want him to practice on you?
I then narrowed my list of Board Certified Plastic Surgeons in Southern California; I didn't want to just choose one from Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, West Los Angeles, or Encino. After all, I am not interested in how beautiful their office looks or if their zip code is 90210. I am not interested in being on "Extreme Makeover" or "The Swan" - I just want the best plastic surgeon for me. In fact, I am willing to travel a bit to find the most qualified, experienced, and compassionate plastic surgeon who can understand my needs.
Next, I reviewed before and after plastic surgery pictures on their individual Web sites, or at their office. Although it is good to view online photo galleries, some plastic surgeons don't show all of their pictures due to of privacy restraints. In fact, I greatly limit the type and extent of facial pictures that I show on my Web site in order to preserve my patient's privacy.
Meet the doctor, and not just his "aesthetic consultant" who speaks with a fancy accent!
Does the cosmetic surgeon spend time with you and go over your questions or concerns?
Does the plastic surgeon understand what you want, rather than what he or she wants?
Is the doctor able to show you before and after pictures of other cases similar to yours?
Is the plastic surgeon honest with you in describing limitations, shortfalls, or even complications that he or she might have had in similar situations?
Is the support staff friendly? Are they the type of people who will be available for you after surgery?
Finally, don't forget that your plastic surgeon, no matter how great, can't perform your surgery in a virtual world. The credentials, skills, and experience of the anesthesiologist who is going to keep you alive during surgery are no less important than the skills of your plastic surgeon. Most patients are not aware that some centers don't even use an anesthesiologist, or don't have the basic monitoring equipments. Fancy office furniture doesn't mean that you will also be having your surgery performed at an accredidated and certified Surgery Center. I personally, would not have my surgery in a facility that is not accredidated by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF), or Medicare; and doesn't have a Board Certified Anesthesiologist.
Don't base this important decision on advertisements, TV shows, and fads. Trust your gut instinct!
